  • Was really good to spend loads of time in garden. Fitted water butt & diverter to drain pipe, Levelled off & marked out a 4x4 bed for square ft growing. Transplanted Garlic & Red Onions into it. Tidied up rest of beds. Fitted auto vent in greenhouse, checked on seedlings whilst in there. All's ok at the mo, potted up Petit Pois into loo rolls & put them in heated greenhouse with Mangetout. Sowed Chinese Cabbage & PSB into propergater. Watched England get slugged by Ireland.

    • Watered all stuff that needed watering in greenhouse. Turned over soil in greehouse and threw some corn over i to allow chooks to scratch for it. Not many eggs today, probably because runs are waterlogged.
Started to build new chicken coop but the weather was a gainst me so I retired myself back to the greenhouse, lit the woodburner, chopped enough logs for the day and and had a seed sowing session. Sowed Kilaxy cabbage, caulis and calabrese in trays. Also sowed some Larkspur. Did get some other seeds out to sow but decided it was too early!

      • Really productive outdoors day today - went for a load of gravel, tacked down some weed membrane and tipped the ton of gravel - too ages to rake it all out but it looks like a 'proper' lotty now! well it will when i've collected the next 4-5 trailer loads of gravel that is!

then i pressganged the OH into helping me put some bubblewarp inside the GH (so i can move some of the 5,000,000 seed trays into it). not finished yet as it was a "big job" apparently.

got the roots out for 4 more of the conifers we cut down last weekend - 2 more trees to do tomorrow depending on weather and then we can get to work tidying up the whole area...

tidied up inside of GH in prep for the bubblewrap game and tidied up the shed.

all that AND saw to the animals and fed the family! no wonder i'm done in!

        • Planted my Vales Emerald and Rocket potatoes in containers in the greenhouse. Sowed some more Sweet-peas as the first lot have already poked their heads up. All my toms are up and potted on into 3inch pots.Chilis have finally come up with ten out of twelve varieties germinated. These took from one to two weeks to germinate so were much slower than last year so don't give up hope if yours are taking their time.

          • Today I planted:
Shallots from those I grew last year.
            Garlic "Flavor" 1 bulb
Planted one each of Charlotte and Nicola in Morrisons buckets in GH and covered them with straw to protect them.
Potted up sweet potato slips in my new root trainer.
Put Broad Bean "Aqua Dulce" and Pea "Kelvedon Wonder" to chit on kitchen paper in airing cupboard.
Found about 2,000,000 packets of seeds that I forgot I had.

                    • Well, today, Trousers was looking mighty fine in his Sunday Best, so was more suited to relaxing and cooking the lunch - (and watching the football or something equally less exciting).
So I got on with the exciting stuff of sowing more Tomato plants. I'd sown some earlier in January, and now I wanted to sow the rest of the packet of 'Ferline F1', because I'm anticipating them being grown outdoors (being Blight 'tolerant').

Nice one Bren, I hope the conversation went well, if a little awkward perhaps. Family is one of those awkward issues, that can turn out really well or really badly. I hope that yours will turn out really well.

Been in the greenhouse potted up Aquilegia, polyanthus, mangetout, broadbean and some herb seeds for the kitchin windowsill. Outside put in some very late shallots and chard that has been growing over winter in the greenhouse. It was a bit of a battle as I'd let the chooks have a wander and they really wanted to demolish the chard as it was going in- mental note to get more going ASAP.

                              • Chicken coop progress...........

Managed to get the basic framework of my new chicken coop (hut) up today, thats after the sides had fallen in on me a couple of times.

It isn't until I've got it put together that I realise how much work it really needs. I think I'm going to be patching for England!
