  • Found and sowed my crimson flowered broadies. Sowed winter squash but can't remember the type. Bought a Shirley tomato and Femspot cucumber from the garden centre and potted them on.

Cleaned out the chook run and re-fenced it

    • At castle garden today. At the veg patch sowed broad beans, peas, sugar snap peas, parsnips, beetroot, and earthed up potatoes that were just breaking the surface. In courtyard garden sowed spinach, rocket and radish, deadheaded a lot of stuff left from previous year and sprayed off the paths.
In greenhouse, sowed SG Basil, Lemon Basil, Coriander and Sage and planted up some Rosemary, Blackcurrant Sage, Pineapple Sage, Old English Thyme, and assorted mints into large terracotta pots. Planted up terracotta strawberry planter. Sowed dwarf and climbing French Beans

        • Yesterday I sowed more carrot and parsnip, potted up all the brassicas, just got to dig the ground where they are to be planted, weeded the patch and found an awful lot of slugs. Let the chickens on for an hour for some slug dinner as a result, before letting the rain do its work.

          • Potted on some tomatoes, planted some climbing frenchies direct into the ground - sheltered sunny spot in the flower bed - so hopefully they will be OK, dead-headed loads of daffs, got OH to help me move my big rustic obelisk to the front of the house where the sweet peas will be 'encouraged' to grow up over it to disguise its rustic charm!

            • Seriously enlarged (almost doubled in size) one of the village 'in bloom' flower beds. Removed a bag of rocks, a load of chocolate wrappers and half a pound of dandelion roots! Added a green stemmed and a red stemmed dogwood and various 'pups' from my garden perennials. Looks great now!

                  • Haven't got a huge amount done today as it's been chucking it down for most of the day. Rain eased off about an hour ago so went out and covered blossoming apple trees with fleece sacking. Covered asparagus bed with fleece and any vulnerable pot plants with bell cloches. Covered toms, aubergines and chillies with fleece and bubblewrap inside mini ghs and covered spud bed with cardboard. All in preparation for forecast frost!! Everything else will have fight it out.

Sorry Selfraising. Are we in the same country? A light frost is forecast for the north of Scotland??????

                      • Ha ha! It must be that North/South divide thing Just going my metcheck which says Farnham has a 60% chance of frost tonight and 98% tomorrow night so I'm taking no chances.

                        • Today, finally sorted out all the pots/trays under the potting table, potted some tomatoes and chillies into larger pots, repotted some pumpkins and marrows.
Took a bit of a chance and planted some early runners out in a bed that's well protected by the side of the house/fence, if they fail I'll have more to follow. It'll be more interesting to see if they actually produce any earlier than the ones I plant out later or whether they get knocked back enough to slow them right down.

                          • Been raining most of the day so not got much done.

                            - Sowed some salad leaves in a seed tray in the kitchen
                            - Sowed some flower seeds, Marigolds and Sunflowers

Decided that I should try to get a Greenhouse...........running out of space to put seedlings...

                            • Earthed up two lots of potatoes and I now have 2 suspicious mounds at either end of the veg patch (my 2 little oiks are in their beds asleep - I promise ).

I moved the tubs of leeks I transplanted a couple of weeks ago, out from under the raised bed netting, onto the bed they'll soon be living in, so that I could sow some more leek seeds direct into the aforementioned raised bed .

Re-sowed a failed carrot seed row and then sowed some more carrots and parsnips (ready for the inlaws moving up - they'd better be great lovers of carrots, parsnips and leeks).

Then was called away by OH to help him put yet MORE roofing over Ciggy (the series 2 landrover he bought when he gave up cigarettes before Christmas which he was going to do up with the money he saved [hence the name]). Said landrover now has better roof than we do and OH has started smoking again - something not quite right with this scenario .

Anyway long and the short of it is that I now have rest of jobs to do tomorrow.

                              • Not getting much done today as its so cold But yesterday I managed to errect a new plastic grenhouse as I had run out of space. Sorted the greenhouse and coldframe and move stuff about. Did some potting on and prickling out still a few more bits to do (toms and chillis). Pricked out rubeckia cherry brandy, potted up curry plant.

Sown small type pumpkins: Invincable, Baby Bear and Small Sugar.
Runnerbeans: Liberty, Relay and White Lady.

Herbs:Soapwort, Wormwood and Balm of Gilead.

Resued a poorly looking cucumber which has been installed on the kitchen window sill.
Keep looking at what needs to be done and can't help thinking I'm falling behind but we just dont seem to be getting the temperatures at the moment and stuff hasn't come on as quickly as I thought it would.

Need to get to the allotment as I have peas that need planting, can feel an afterwork session coming on.
