  • Before I had even stretched and yawned this morning, Trousers had built me yet another square raised bed in our Kitchen Potager. Because he knows that I desperately need those beds now 'Quite Quick' if I'm to open up our Kitchen Garden at the end of June.

    • Sowed Brussels Sprout Maximus, watered and had an inspiring Mother's Day at Ryton. Got up early and weeded garden with the chooks before everything else.

        • Spent the weekend helping OH design and construct cat exclusion fencing for the raised beds. Our cat looked a bit put out because he seemed to know exactly what we were doing!

          • So good to see this forum online again! Planted some sweet banana peppers and some mild chilli poblanos today. Planted a tayberry and black current for this year; my very first ones. Uncovered my sunflower seedlings all have sprouted wonderfully, shallotts are rooting nicely too, garlic and potatoes are sprouting and ready after all frosts have gone; even the first of the watermelon plants are popping into the world now, so happy

                • Finally got around to sowing some Crimson flowered broadies I knew I had lurking in the greenhouse........... somewhere!

Took eleven chrysanth cuttings off my late greenhouse flowering varieties and potted them up with a perspex cover over them to stop them drying out.

Sowed some thyme and Basil for the herb bed.

                  • Today I harvested all of the nettles in our garden, shoved them in an old chicken manure pellets tub with a brick and some water and left it to ferment in to liquid feed.

Then it rained so I went in and started the jigsaw my elsdest had given me for Mothering Sunday.

Tomorrow I have seeds to sow .

                    • Well, last night...

First sowing of the year - 10 modules each of PSB, curly kale, sprouts & calebrese. Now safely in the blow-away with my 20 salvaged strawberries. Topped up compost in salad potato bags as I'd run out on Sunday. Had more planned but got called inside to read the munchkin a story. Must do leeks, squash, peas, courgette, pumpkin, tomatoes & beetroot before the week is out. Oh god, where am I going to put it all...!

                        • Planted two rows of desiree pots in the garden and three rows of earlies in the allotment. Chopped garden rhubarb in half and transplanted in the allotment. Sowed more tomatoes indoors as well as spring onions, and also some wheat (!) as an experiment. It has overtaken all other seedlings in just a few days. If it goes well I'll sow a metre square next year as apparently that's how much you need to make a loaf of bread. My wife says it will be a waste of space, and to be honest she's probably right.

                          • I had the day off work yesterday and finally got to the allotment! planted out 3 rows of Charlotte potatoes, 6 rows of King Edwards; 10 banana shallots, 2 rows of red onions and 5 rows (I think) of white onions .... the weeds are growing fast already though!

                            • Yesterday we put up a plastic greenhouse, attached to the shed.

Today, I tidied up the shed on my allotment (it's just been for storage for past year) - put up a table in it and shelf, and sowed some seeds while there - swiss chard, pak choi and turnips.

Dug up another 1/2 bed, full of dock leaves and grass!!

                              • Sowed brandywine tomato seeds, sprouted with the help of Grapes here*. I'm now soaking runner beans and peas and can't wait to start more off this way.
