Went out in appalling rain and picked 10kgs gooseberries and 5kgs strawberries before the rain spoilt the strawberries and split the gooseberries. I now have two very big pots of strawberry and gooseberry jam (mixed) on the go.

Not much done, but:
Watered courgettes and potted plants, including a bit of tomato feeder. decided not to plant out cucumber plants since cold wind. Carrots have germinated - horray - Autumn King. But did do lots of harvesting, including:
tayberries
strawberries
dug new potatos - Arran Pilot - each plant had one very big tuber, 4 inches long or more and lots of smaller ones and the cook wasn't happy with the size mix, but they tasted better than last week's speedy.
picked broad beans
picked turnip tops (Imperial green long pod)
picked lettuce (mix of all year round, litttle gem, salad bowl)
picked rocket
picked parsley
picked courgettes (Defender F1)
piched gooseberries which the cook made into gooseberry cake - delicious with elderflower cream
and the children ate raw gooseberres and not quite ripe redcurrents.

Yesterday could do nothing because of the rain, but looking forward to this evening. Now the ground has softened a bit (I hope) I can get the rest of the pumpkins in. Granddaughter managed to trim the grass around the raised beds yesterday morning before it started to rain.Granny on the Game in Sheffield

- sowed more flowers, romanesco, spring onions, beetroot, mooli, carrots, peas & parsnips
- planted out Cherokee French beans & white cucumbers
- finally planted up the hanging baskets on my shed
- pulled more & more sideshoots off the tomatoes (so tedious)
- pulled out lots more horsetail & couch from the school garden, and planted out flowers
- turned out some more daleks and then...
- planted trailing squash on the top of my lazy compost heaps
- staked lots of tall things that the wind had flattenedLast edited by Two_Sheds; 16-06-2011, 08:11 AM.All gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Seeds I had ordered (50% off + no postage - woohoo!) arrived today, it had stopped raining so I planted out some 'amethyst' dwarf beans, turnips, a few sunflowers 'moonwalker' (bit late I know) plus some sugar snap peas and a few other bits. I was lucky enough to have the day off and it's my birthday so all in all I had a great day, which finished with a lovely dinner with friends.
