  • It's my first time back on here in a while.

The greehouse incident made me lose heart this year a bit. I lost a lot when it blew down, but I still had a brilliand crop of potaoes and onions, and my sprouts are coming on well, despite being neglected for most of the season.

However, I am now over the greenhouse and planning for next year. Yesterday I weeded bed 1 and a bit of the path and will be weeding from now to christmas by the looks of it. I'm also planning to build a more robust greenhouse for next year and there's beds to be built and filled too.

I have def missed the garden, but I'm angry with myself for wasting a good growing season!

        • Made chilli jam (granddaughter's special request). Middle daughter bought me a pack of mixed chillies from the market, so saved seeds from Habanero and Scotch Bonnet. Cleared more finished tomato plants from greenhouse, replaced door that had blown off.

            • Cleared out the tomatoes and dead cucumbers from the greenhouse, and put in pots of geraniums, fuschias and begonias as the forecast isn't good for the next few days. I'll get them sorted properly during half term.
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

              • Picked up a blackberry plant from Dobbies which hopefully will do nicely next year. Got a cracking strawberry plant in a nice pot in the sale for £2 Also got a pkt of strawberry seeds in tesco for 74p! They were reduced from £2.99 Going to sow them tomorrow. Also going to sow some sweet peas and see what happens. I will need to lift the begonias soon and store the tubers for next years planting (I think). All the other potted plants are now inside as it's getting a bit wild here.

                • Had my first ever bonfire all on my own...and didn't burn down the whole site!
Also managed to get some more digging done and cleared a lot of the overgrown stuff leaving my plot looking the most like I can cope with it than it has for the whole year

                    • Dropped OH off at his friend's house as they're off for the day finally using the voucher i bought him for his Bday in April (Spy games!!) I had a wander around Hobbycraft before coming home & emptying all the dead summer pots on the compost heap, hung out the washing, then pottered in & around the Greenhouse for an hour. That's about all i can manage at the moment, thankfully my parents are coming to stay for a few days next week - if the weather stays good i can put them to work tidying up the flower beds!

                        • Had two hours sleep after fishing last night (in at 3am, kids think its funny to wake up at 5am!!) very very sore today after trying out a new casting style- south african,my first saturday off for 14 weeks, dragged out to the local boot sale, saw some lovely new rods but was dragged away!
Mcdonalds for a coffee, latte, two sugars!
Home and the big garden clear up - weeding, hoeing, clearing up and sorting pots etc etc.
Planted out shallots, in anything i could find, the beds are full, they're even in the hamster cage! lol
Also the packet said 25 bulbs, i got 38!?
When it said 1 inch deep, it meant the bottom of the bulb right!? Not the entire bulb 1 inch under!? eek!
had to water as well, very dry.

                              • Yesterday we second dug and raked the new bed we started last week. OH put posts in ready to take debris netting. This bed will be for the over wintering onions - with the netting to keep off our friendly blackbirds. No idea if its worth trying to grow over-wintering onions up here, but willing to give it a try :-)
