  • Transferred a row of broad beans in root tubes to allotment
Ditto with peas started in root trainers although there was only one root and it was already coming out the bottom. Hope they are ok.

Planted a grow bag tray of mizuna and cut and come again lettuce. A seed tray of rocket and a module tray of French breakfast radish.

Erected a polythene cloche over most of the peas

    Weeded....

    Loving my allotment!

          • Off work this week so I progressed with the 'L' shaped greenhouse project.
Tried my hand (not very successfully) at cutting glass. Stripped glass out of old wooden window frames but needed to cut them to size.
Had about a 75% success rate with a blunt cutter (would you believe that Wickes, one of the biggest hardware/DIY chains in the country, don't sell glass cutters!)
I'm afraid the triangular pieces on the ridges are going to have to be perspex as my glass cutting skill just doesn't 'cut the mustard'

            • Snadger,

Do you have a Screwfix trade counter near you. 6 Wheel glass cutter £2-53p + vat.

When cutting glass make sure the glass is clean on both side's. Lay on a flat soft surface pro's use velvet. Make one score mark using a straight edge, lift glass and place a matchstick or similar under either end of the score mark and press down either side of mark. Another way but less reliable is to score as above turn glass over and gently tap the score mark on the reverse side, the glass will spilt along the mark.

A little practice and you will soon be cutting like a pro.

                • Yesterday saw our lawn get its first cut of the year, after that i edged half of the flower beds and re-cut the edging in places where it was needed. Then my lovely neighbour (who's a chicken farmer) delivered me two wheelbarrows worth of well rotted chicken manure!

                    • Washed 55 pots. Now I'm exhausted.
The rest will have to wait till tomorrow.

                      • Completely emptied the Peach Greenhouse, took up the mypex, found a frog I never knew I had in there, and repositioned my dad's metal cabinets in the drafty dutch greenhouse to be able to finally sort out my horticultural 'clutter' from the Peach Greenie, so that this summer, I can grow directly into the soil rather than in pots in there.
One of those days where you have to make a huge amount of mess in order to get some sembl.sembl.kind of order. Hugely satisfying, and fed the frog a couple of slugs.....

                          • Carried on sieveing and bagging the compost from the darlek, not much more to do now.

Potted on my tomato seedlings whilst taking a breather.

Sat in my shirt sleeves with SWMBO drinking tea in the glorious sunshine, it was truely wonderful today.
