big tidy up day. OH mowed the lawn while I spread the grass clippings on a new section of border, it's just been dug over, and the raspberry canes planted, with a layer of homemade compost on some parts, around the lovage plants, then edged with some spare boards in readiness for something a bit nicer looking.
dug out couch grass infiltrating my beds.
Checked on the shallots. They were only sown two days ago but already have half inch roots, whey hey!!
no response from the toms yet....

Trousers had a massive red wine overhang this morning so I feared that he wouldn't be able to build the new raised beds from the decking planks that our neighbour kindly donated, but I couldn't have been more wrong if I tried. Two 12ft square ones built 'with knobs on', and three trianglier ones, without knobs on (see tomorrow's Funny Farm Blog update for pictures children) Thanks Darling, I'll cook you a gorgeous Farmhouse Brekkie in the morning, and cover you in kisses
Me? I filled the newly-positioned massive Strawberry Bar with FYM, so I can replant all my Strawberries in it now, tabletop height for easy picking. Then I earthed up my first early spuds planted in large tubs with more FYM, and tidied up the mess I'd made during the week by emptying everything out of the Peachy Nectarine Greenhouse to disinfect and clean the glass.
...And rescued a lamb in the field bordering the manure mountain, that had somehow got away from mummy. A tenfold of careering young cattle frolicking with hooves 'all over the shop', chasing it and frightening the poor little fluffball to death was bound to end in tears, but thanks to Wellie, Number 30 is back safe with mummy now

Friday evening - finished work early - straight home and down to the plot. Planted my first early potatoes which had been chitting for 3 weeks. Hoed over-wintering onions, shallots and garlic and gave them some chicken poo pellets - hopefully it will rain this week. Planted some radish direct to the bed. Forked over the bed bordering the fence - full of docks, couch etc. The soil is very friable at the moment as it is a while since we had serious rain. The plot is the tidiest it has been at this time of year since I started. Feeling moderately smug! :-)

Sowed the last of my onions sets outside.
Sowed some more turnips, leeks, beets and spring onions under plastic.
And sowed my early spuds (Kestrel, PF Apple and Charlotte) in one of the raised beds. It may be a bit early but they're nice and deep and I'll earth up once they start showing above the surface.

Resowed the carrots leeks beetroot and pak choi which I sowed last month and they were eaten and also destroyed by the wind!!
Sowed the first lot of peas.
Much as I love visitors, I'm glad for the time again to get back into my garden, it has been playing second fiddle to the constant stream of guests this summer. Time for new house rules I think!

Brilliant surprise day! OH showed up at lotty with a truck full of free goodies for the lotty this year. Now can rebuild both compost bin areas, and finish off bordering the back line of the plot with some low fencing- yeah! Repositioned black sheeting by front of shed to keep weeds at bay finally. Turned over and sifted compost thats been rotting since last year. Tested soil to check the ph balance- all good but think I have clay type soil as was really sticky wet about 4 inches down.
Brought thermometer to the plot, and some shed goodies. Knocked down rotten shed at bottom of plot but saved the window panels- will use these to build a cold frame; even found 2 multi tools, and brand new netting in the debris Planted some cress and broccolli sprouts indoors today.
Yesterday had a lovely day at the garden center; my first trip for this growing season. Too early for any available veg plants, but stocked up on seeds, fertilizers, and other necessities then enjoyed a fabulous seafood chowder and coffee
Planted in the greenhouse two days ago some Sweet Basil, Giant sunflowers and Watermelons.
Now for a cuppa and well earned restPeaceful days are in the garden!

Yesterday rebuilt a small brick wall that borders my patio (frost damage). First attempt at bricklaying and it was level!! Planted out some of my peas. Today sowed beetroot alto in modules. Pricked out night scented stock into modules. Sowed Sweet pea Jet Set and Spencer mix into pots. Did more weeding out the front garden and then started on the back garden. Pulled up loads of sycamore seedlings and just had a general tidy up.AKA Angie
