  • Weeded the raised beds (loads and loads of chickweed) husband dug plot over for new bed.

Planted blackcurrant plants (sorry twosheds!! *blush* ) which have been thriving in a bucket for ages.

Topped up beds with last years compost.

Mowed lawn, put table and chairs out on the lawn for Summer and took 4 big bags of garden waste to the tip.

Sorted out my stash of seeds for planting next week. Hoping to have everything in pots ready to fill spaces as they come free.

Husband cut hedge and neighbour's hedge (her daughter bought a lovely bottle of wine as a thank you which we are aiming to drink tonight looking over our hard work.)

Pondered whether 39 garlic plants is too much even for me...at least I won't get vampires hanging around garden.

    • Sowed carrots, parsnips, radishes, spring onions. Sorted out seeds for CACA salad leaves. Prepared plant labels and pots for bean sowing tomorrow. Erected wigwam for said beans. (Well, I say that loosely because my son did it for me).

          • Sowed 20 (10 types) squash seeds (got a bit carried away after having the squash parcel ).

Dug a bed up and found a nest of slow worms [I squealed, shrieked and then swore], erm and then went around my plot neighbours asking them how they kept the slugs off direct sown crops - until I saw the blue sea beneath the crops :/

            • Cut the grass which was so high the dogs could not walk through it. Tried to save many plants that were on the point of dying.

              • Carrots, three varieties in my raised bed of growbags and sand mix on top of our own compost. Parsnips x 2 varieties in 9' lines. Turnips x 2 varieties in 9' lines. Sowed a pot of leek musselborough and spring onion ishykura or something like that. Just wished I had got the rest of my potatoes in - oh well, next weekend. Anyone else see the fabulous red full moon tonight?! Good weather forecast for rest of the week!
Cleaned the girls house out with ***** Fluid and puffed with DE. puffed them too. OH mowed lawns - ours and next doors. Spread chicken poo bedding and 3/4 acre of grass clippings around the compost bins. They are all now full to bursting - need to buy some more!
                A lovely day!

                • Cut up some bamboo canes to stick in the ground in my border as a cat appears to be using it as a toilet again. Wigwam up for cumcumbers. Cut up some 2litre bottles and dug them into the soil to be used as a drip reservoir later in the summer

                      • Another one here who's been re-potting, I've done toms, aubergines, cucs, courgettes and chillis, then weeded and sown more spring onions. Lastly washed all the plant pots and trays I'd used.

Must be the day to do this - that's what I spent my afternoon doing - both coops cleaned, discinfectanted and puffed with DE.

Veg growing wise, managed to get 5 fence posts cemented in at allotment to make a fence with pallets, to enclose the plot again. (We had taken down all bramble bushes to ground level, ready to spout again behind the fence). Planted 10 cauli plants that my chicken breeder gave me when I bought 2 new layers and some hatching eggs off him.

Recycling wise - took my DS1 chest of drawers that he was chucking away, took out drawers to make into salad beds, then put polystyrene sheets (that he was chucking out, from new washing machine and cooker), lined the chest of drawers, and covered front (now top) with glass panel - new cold frame!! Sowed 36 runner beans in 18 pots, popped in there.

                            • Potted up blueberry planst into larger pots
Watered generally, but especially broad beans and peas in modules, tomatos and courgettes in pots.
Muclched early pots with grass cuttings (having mowed lawn). Decided to keep them under plastic and cut holes for them to grow through
                              Bit of weeding

Is it too early for French beans next week? Will probably plant a bit of salad, leeks and parsnips too.
