    • Today and yesterday I got tore-in about my front garden which was looking a tad sorry for itself. All the love and attention prior to then, going to the veg garden at the rear.
Clay soil is just the big yins way of letting you know nothing good comes easy.

          • Yesterday - spread the weed suppressant fabric around the back of the greenhouse, down the one side, between the raised beds. OH and I barrowed and spread 2/3 of a big sack of gravel over the space. Put a couple of barrow loads in the greenhouse on the floor - what a difference! Ran out of fabric so had to make a foray to Poundland. Dug up an indeterminate bush by the side of the greenhouse - it was definitely a bush rather than a shrub. Quite pretty leaves but in the way I'm afraid. Took it to a piece of waste land near our housing estate and replanted it there! Guerilla gardening.

In the afternoon I planted out some sweetpeas around a wigwam and also put some in a big tub around a wigwam. The gravelling is to be completed today!

            • Sowed 3 varieties of runner beans, 3 of courgettes, sweetcorn 'Minipop', red cabbage and savoy cabbage. All in pots in greenhouse (except cabbages) to avoid slug feasts. Greenhouse now full to bursting, I think anyone who grows their own never has enough space!!!
              Weeded.
Did a rain dance. Doesn't seem to have worked, will try again.

                • Potted on toms and aubergines. I have no more windowsill space for aubergines, so they've had to be left outside, but they are in 2 litre plastic bottle cloches, so their own mini greenhouse I hope.

                        • Lots of weeding, mowing, staking up some broad beans, eyeing up my rhubarb hungrily... a week or so till I can pick it yum yum!... but mainly weeding, today. They just grow so fast.

The other day I sowed some melon seeds, cucumber, hunter squash as my first lot seem to have rotted before germinating, and some corn. Oh and some mangetout. Yumyum!

                              • Watered the Centenary garden and prepped area for onions to go in. Took part in an impromptu party for our Wally (89 and works 3 full plots ) Unfleeced my garlic and shallots , hopefully the allium miner fly has been and gone, unlike the little green caterpillars I'm still picking off the goosgogs. Admired the crimson boreds that are coming into flower. Picked rhubarb . Came home pricked out celeriac . Made goosgog (harvested from the freezer) and elderflower(cheated using cordial ) jam to sell on sunday at our Easter funday.
