      I must admit, I can't wait to harvest them from the ground to the pan! Always had them in bags before, so it will be interesting to see how much more of the lawn is going to be sacrificed to potatoes. It's pretty much a field already!

      Didn't do anything on the garden last night, I overdid it the day before, serves me right I ought to know my limitations by now.

      • Got up nice and early this morning, full of plans for the day - Now scuppered Grandson aged 4 who has been staying with me for a few days and was due to go back to pre-school today and then home has CHICKENPOX!! Hence no school! His big sister (who hasn't had chickenpox) is due to go on a school trip to France on Friday and as they haven't been together for nearly a week Mum has asked if grandson can stay with me. Of course I agreed (don't we always?), so I'm confined to quarters till then. I spose we can go to the allotment if it stays dry - no other kids over there. Anyone know how long the incubation period for chickenpox is - it doesn't say on the NHS site.

            • Been out and discovered that two sunflowers I planted last night in old wastebins that I used to grow carrots in, have vanished! Slugs and snails. I've also had a visit from a cat in a bed with cauliflowers in, so I've stuck some bottles of water in there to see if it will keep it off.

                • Mowed. Took ages as I have beds and use a push mower. (I now have blisters lol)

                  Dug up a couple potato plants, carrots, spring onions, radish, picked rasps. Felt very smug.

                  Dug over bed and sowed direct more carrots and swede

                  weeded another bed and sowed more mangetout

                  Sat and gossipped and had tea with lottie neighbours

                  Came home and picked salad leaves and washed all my veg ready for tonight.

                            • Lifted my japanese onions to dry along with my garlic. Quite impressed with the onions I grew overwinter in the cold frame!
                              That little bit extra protection over the worst weather appears to have worked wonders.
                              I think I'll sow Mooli in the cold frame now as the Mooli I tried to overwinter succumbed to the severe weather we had.
                              Did some weeding of the paths until the rain forced me into the greenhouse where i did all the watering (hadn't been able to get to allotment yesterday). Also pricked on some Chrysanth cuttings into paper cups to let them form a better root system before planting out.
                              They are very late cuttings but hopefully they will still flower.
                              The incidence of allium whiterot seems to have depreciated this year. Only had about two of my fifty overwintered onions which have bolted so I'm quite chuffed. I'll still need to use them quite quickly as they don't keep very well.

                              • Blitz the small greenhouse of tired salad plants;
                                Potted on the last of my tomato side shoots;
                                Planted out the last, almost forgotten, cucumber plant. This had been a weary little seedling which seemed to be lacking in umph. I never got around to composting it and had popped some of the side shoots into it's tub and left them to it. It has put on some growth since I put the toms in with it, so I've popped it into one of the raised beds to see what happens; and
                                Planted out the latest runner bean seedlings.

                                Wanted to pot on my latest round of salad seedlings but have run out of time
