Pulled up the last courgette plant. More weeding. Dug out another two brambles from the boundary (hope they don't re-shoot again). Planted out some brassica plants - spring cabbage and kale. Picked enough decent runner beans for dinner.

Today i have swept up the dead leaves from round the front & side of the house (is it Autumn already?), and the leaves from the drainage channel in front of the garage and added all of these to the compost heap. I dead headed and removed yellowing leaves from the large pot of Geraniums on the decking and then swept that too. Watered all pots, baskets and GH as it has been scorching, OH cut half of the lawn and i made a batch of Roasted Tomato Relish which is FAB!Last edited by Newbie; 29-09-2011, 07:36 PM.

Weeded, Weeded, Weeded!!! I got the keys to my new allotment last weekend and finally cleared the last of the weeds today. Hubbie managed to lay 3/4 of a patio area at the end of the allotment too which I hope will house a shed in the next few weeks
We also started to mark out beds and I watered the spring cabbages that I managed to get in the ground on Tuesday Back again tomorrow

took all moulded leaves off 3 courgette bushes [bushes no longer, ha ha!!], bagged up 3 bags of compost for strewing around later so i can make a new pile where that was.
picked tomatoes, chard and courgettes.
Threw away some tomato plants, well, ok, put them on the compost heap or scattered the compost on top of covered areas.
Put some newspaper down underneath a builders bag and wet it to make a mulch bed in a months or sos time, when it's a bit bladdy cooler....
thought about wherre to put a hugelkutur bed for next year...

Hello everyone I'm a newbie to the forum
So looking forward to getting to know you all and pick your brains I'm a complete novice and just getting into the whole gardening thing. I've just purchased a 6x4 greenhouse and I'm thinking of planting all the usual suspects i.e. soft fruits and salad veg. I planted rhubarb that I grew from seed and it's doing as well as can be what with the slugs and all! I have a cherry tree which seems to yield one cherry a year! and I have a flowering redcurrant which the birds seem to love.
I'm also going to be looking at growing things in containers........I have a huge garden but it's largely been made into dry areas to make it more manageable. I'm going to have to be rather creative as I like the idea of a fruit corner and a birds and bees corner I can't believe how hooked I'm becoming in all this stuff.....I suddenly know more about flowers than I ever imagined! Anyway I'm going to be busy googling about all the the things I want to grow and I will keep you up to date with my little successes

Hubbie managed to finish the paving at the end of the lottie today ready for a shed. We also created and dug over 4 beds and planted over wintering onions (red, white and yellow) and garlic. Plus gave my cabbages another good watering
Back at home we swept up all the apples of the lawn, saving any good quality windfalls, mowed the lawn and had a general tidy up. Shattered.com now!!!

- pulled out another 4 buckets of annual grass weeds & chickweed
- dug out the last Mr Little's spuds (loads of them, but very small. Best for mashing)
- laughed at the "winter" crops which are all now reading for picking in this heatwave
- collected lettuce seeds & actually put them in packets in the seed box
- started a Mixtry wine (all the leftover fruit in the freezer)
- collected another 2 sacks of autumn leaves for leafmould
- fed the chillies in ghAll gardeners know better than other gardeners." -- Chinese Proverb.

Yesterday evening I decided to cut the "bush" in the front garden down to size. I hate it and it was turning into a tree. Unfortunately I ran out of daylight, and this morning there are three branches sticking out of the middle of it. It looks ridiculous.
