My gooseberries have been completely stripped due to saw fly this year, is there anything I need to do to help prevent this happening again next year. Also will the bushes be ok to keep or have they had it? Thanks Plotlady

When we had a gooseberry bush, at the first sign of sawfly, I used to chuck a few peanuts under the bush so that the natural predators, ie birds would be attracted and see off the problem. The appearance of the gooseberry sawfly coincides with the birds feeding their young. They cleared the problem in a very short time!!
I'd keep the bushes, and see what happens!!
