I know if you tip prune at a node where opposite leaves are you will get two new branches and a bushier tree, but if you tip prune an alternate leaf arrangement, do you just get the one new shoot or does it stimulate the lower one too?
I'm wanting to tip prune my Whitebeam (i know i know, but a tree is a tree) to keep it compact and dense. So the birds will nest in it and it will make a better screen :-)
