Raspberry Polka, Autumn Bliss or Joan J

...........I have heard all the rave reveiws about Joan J but do the others come close? Which one tastes better and is firmer (i like sharp tastes!)

I've only ever grown Autumn Bliss and I'm happy with them.

Joan J for me win hands down, long cropping with large fruits and probably the best I have tasted

Never grown Polka - started with Autumn Bliss, now grow only Joan J and wouldn't go back. Still picking them today.

Over the years I've tried many raspberry varieties. The only ones which didn't die were Autumn Bliss and Allgold (which appears to be a yellow variant of Autumn Bliss).

I grow autumn bliss and all gold and like both.

Did have two polka but they turned up their toes and died, no idea why as they were planted at the same time as the other four and treated the same.

They started growing new shoots then they turned yellow then brown and the main cane looked dead as well, they didn’t go dry or get too wet as far as I know and in the same bed as the others so I personally wouldn’t recommend them as they are clearly more susceptible to something.

I’ve not grown Joan J but I have Polka and Autumn Bliss, and I much prefer Polka - huge fruit on vigorous plants, great flavour. I also have All Gold and don’t rate them that highly, flavour is ok but the fruit is very soft and turns to mush within a day of picking.

I don't like yellow raspberries - they taste of sweet water and not much else. I still have some but am ripping them out whenever I spot them.

Chap at the plot just turned up with 30-odd spare autumn bliss - so I think my autumn raspberry decision for this year has been somewhat take out of my hands... free pretty uch always tastes best.

Dont have Joan J, but the polka, heritage, polana, autumn treasure all taste similar to me, much deeper taste and less watery than brought ones. Think it also depends on your site, if it gets water logged in winter then Joan J are root rot susceptible, polka are moderatly susceptible and autumn bliss is resistant. Think autumn bliss is like autumn treasure in that it needs double cropping to get a decent yield output

Love my Joan J Had a couple of berries off her today ~ November 13th!

I have 3 Polka which I got earlier this year and temporarily put in pots....and the poor things are still in the pots! Their rasps didn't taste too bad but didn't compare to Joan for size nor sweetness......tho' we shall see how they compare next year once I have them in the ground properly.

I got one earlier this year from Wilko and forgot to label it! Now I have FOUR pots with mystery plants in them....one is a red gooseberry tho' I think I know which that is as it is thorny; one is a Tayberry, one is a Redcurrant and the other is a yellow raspberry 'all gold'

I really MUST start labelling things instead of relying on memory!!!
