Polka all the way
So, i’m New to all this so might have got things wrong. However, last winter I put in 7 polka and 7 Joan j. I’m based in Dundee.
All of the polka survives winter. 5 of the Joan j did. Polka canes are a bit longer and have little thorns, but not too bad. Joan j has no thorns but canes more brittle. Polka started fruiting a couple of weeks earlier and both continued fruiting to start of December.
Polka fruit in my garden were larger, firmer and tastier. Joan j were still nice, but a touch smaller and a touch more watery with less flavour overall.
I’m interested to see many people here say Joan j better than polka but it’s not my experience in my garden. While both were nice, polka has been superior to Joan j in my garden in every way except that they have thorns.
