Cordon fruit tree

I have been reorganizing my plot and now have a nice sheltered fence panel to grow something up. It's not very wide so a fan wouldn't work but a cordon would work.

Has anyone grown cordons and if so which varieties would you recommend? Was thinking plum or apicrot or cherry as have Apple's already....

You can't very easily grow the fruit you mention in cordon form due to the way they form their fruit buds.

May be some sort of soft fruit like gooseberry or Loganberry would be a better option ?

Have 3 gooseberries 2 loganberries and a tumulberry already! What does work as a cordon?

How wide is not very wide?

There are some plums you can get to cordon via pruning and, some you can buy already done. I forget the varieties but the usual online places sell them as cordon, columnar or minarette.

If you have a couple of feet to play with, you can probably get away with a tree on dwarf rootstock, some hard pruning and festooning. I'm doing a similar thing with blue tit on pixy at the moment.

Would redcurrants interest you ? or possibly a blueberry, depending on the sort of soil you have - bit hard to say without knowing more about your garden layout - possibly moving one of your existing gooseberries and using the space that occupied for a plum would be another option ?

this lot do cordon trees ,they are abit pricey compared to some placesbut ive ordered strawberrys from them and they were good quailty
