  • Mazzard cherry

Is anyone growing muzzard cherries? Looking to add another few cherry trees to my back garden orchard and fancied something a bit unusual. Found some old muzzard cherry varieties for sale as was wondering if anyone else was growing them that could offer a bit of advice. What are muzzard cherries like compared to regular sweet cherries? Is the flavour worth it?

    Hi,

I think you are referring to a prunus avium (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prunus_avium), a wild cherry. I have not grown these - I have some Morellos, and also a bird cherry in the hedgerow. They sound a bit variable for eating (?) but seem to be a nice native tree for wildlife.
