I've tried many times to read it from when I was 16 years old but I have always struggled to get to grips with it. I've seen the films but its not the same. I have a boxed set of six LOTR books which I may have another go at in my leisure hours. If not, its on to eBay they go.

When I was a student ( a while ago ) I read the Lord of the Rings in one sitting - can't remember the precise time it took, but it was more than 24 hours anyway

It's one of the few books I've read more than once. It takes me a while, being dyslexic.
I found the films very helpful in helping me understand what was going on in the books.
I completely gave up trying to read hitch hikers guide to the Galaxy. To many made up words ( if you know what I mean ). Love the film.

I love LOTR. The films did a fantastic job of transferring the books, the imagery, all really well done. And the battle scenes, wow - shows the chaos but also how you just might survive it all. No fast edits showing not much at all.

And now I'm done gushing - love the weaving of the trees! I have seen similar in some Japanese pics but those were in parks methinks.

Could you graft it together too, do you think? Like, say five different fruits, all weaved and grafted together and voila, weird fruit? I have only a very basic understanding of grafting but I saw some programmes that showed bits of it and it looked really interesting.

I prefer to look on myself as being differently sane (said he with dignity) - but yes, nutty from day one :-)

you can graft some of them together, but they have to be from the same family - so apple with apple or plum with plum/peach - but not apple with plum

grafts like this happen occasionally in Nature when two branches rub together.

I'm also joining two plum trees together but this is a bit more artificial as I've had to put "arches" in to give them the idea.
