  • Gooseberry bush with no roots

    Hi All,

I have just bought two gooseberry bushes from my local supermarket as I am wanting to start growing a few of my own fruit and veg.

I have opened them this morning to plant them and they have no roots. The bush is a collection of dried branches joined together in a V shape at the bottom which doesnt seem to have a root ball.

Is this normal, I can't take them back as I didn't keep the receipt? Am just wondering if there is any chance they will grow roots or should I just not bother.

    Thanks

    Claire

      Do you have a photograph?
Feed the soil, not the plants.
      (helps if you have cluckies)

Take them back with packaging. Most places will exchange or give refunds.
Buy a plant that has some leaves or new buds. - or gently scratch a branch with your nail and look for green where you've scratched. If it looks dead, its dead - leave it on the shelf.
