Well, I'm after a little crab apple and one would look lovely in your little space - fab for jams and jellies.

If you look at things from a monetary standpoint for example, virtually everything I do in the garden is a waste of my time.

5 years of lugging the thing in and out and the tree looked a bloody mess! I don't mind using my time and effort if I get something out of it....a piece of fruit would have been nice
So for example I have a 3 year old Nectarine in a container, and as I am reasonably fit I don't mind moving it twice a year.
Would you advise me that I am wasting my time in this case ?

I have several peach and nectarine trees that were in a cheapo polytunnel until last winter, when the cover gave up the ghost and had to be removed before the whole thing collapsed.
Two of the peaches were Avalon Pride and they look a lot better than the others with minimal leaf curl - the others are a right mess.
I won't buy any more.
