  • Strawberry question.

I have had to dig up dozens and dozens of strawberry plants whilst clearing a very weedy
New allotment area. I don't want most but have kept about 20 in case I see a lady who's just started on an allotment nearby. How can I keep them? Should I pot them up and put in an unheated greenhouse or do you think I'm wasting my time. ? They grew in wonderful soil so are pretty chunky.

They don't need a greenhouse. Outside is fine. If they are a few years old though they are probably past their best.

Only 2 yrs old so may be viable I think. I realise they should be replaced after a few years. You know
what it's like, we all hate to throw a plant if it has a chance of being re used. Or given to a Newbie.

If you know which is her allotment you could pot them up, put them there with a note telling her who they are from and a reminder to return your pots.

You could put then in a spare bit of ground with the roots covered, lie healing in a fruit tree, so if she wants them, when she is ready to plant, she just needs to pull them up.
