  • Too early to graft apple trees yet?

    Hi all,
It's been pretty mild down here in the south west and yesterday I went out to prune my apple trees. I had collected a few scions from other trees and decided to try graft a bit of a family apple tree. I'm just looking out at the trees being battered around in the wind now, and wonder whether I've been too hasty?? Should I have waited another month or two?
    Any thoughts welcome!

I have always aimed for grafting apples around 14th Feb and they have always been good (last years were a bit poor but I think rootstock and scions were a bit stressed from the previous dry summer) I noticed yesterday that my cherry plums are in blossom that is two weeks earlier than last year. I know there is a storm but it is quite warm really for the time of year. I would do them but just be prepared if there is a sudden cold snap. However I always pop mine in a sheltered spot when done.
