I have 3 polka canes put in just last November so cannot comment. I choose them as autumn cropping so pruning is easier and they are supposed to have no/few spikes.

I also have 3 ruby beauty in pots. These are summer fruiting and I am not too sure how to prune as they are supposed to grow as a bush. That said they are pretty around the patio and tasty to eat, not a huge yield but I got enough to make 75ml of Raspberry vinegar and fill a Victoria sponge in year 2.

The thing I grow best are very large slugs!

My Polka do have some spikes vp but not very bad. Joan j have none. But on my plot the polka fruit earlier and continue fruiting longer than my Joan J, have larger, firmer fruit and a better overall yield.

Both taste great but polka better than Joan j in my garden.
