Strawberry patch - OK to thin out now?

I need to thin out our strawberry patch will it be OK to do this now?

I've also a number of runners in pots to add / put into the patch & again is now OK to do this?

Might be a bit early yet, March or April is usual time to plant, though with the climate changing, who knows these days.
