  • Rhubarb

So after being away from my plot for three weeks, I’ve come back to see my rhubarb has gone to seed. Will it be inedible this year? And do I take the whole sprouted stalk off or just the top sorry I’m new to this 😊
And can anyone id this type, I got it in the clearance next to currants In dobbies, will they be red currants?

I'd take out the complete stalk - it'll be hollow.
The plant is, I think, a Flowering Currant not an edible one - sorry.

The rhubarb will still be perfectly edible this year, although you may want to limit how much you pull, as flowering weakens the plant.

And yeah, that's a flowering currant. The fruit are actually edible, though - all Ribes fruit are - it's just they're quite small (even smaller than redcurrants) and I hear they don't taste that nice. They ripen black, so it may be worth trying some once they're ripe (cooked with sugar) to see if you like them.

Woo strangely enough I’ve been wanting one of these flowering currants for a while now so lucky dip in the bargain corner has went my way lol as long as I have enough for rhubarb crumble I’ll be happy, I’ve waited a year already for it
        Thanks all
