  • Medlar seedling?

This seedling is growing under one of the medlar trees. The leaves have the same slightly downy texture, but are more rounded than the mature medlar tree leaves. Do people think it's a medlar, or am I being optimistic?

I would be almost certain it is at the very least a tree seedling. I couldn't tell you for sure whether it's actually a medlar, but if it's right under the tree then it's probably quite likely.
Why not just let it grow for a bit and see?

I was thinking more about transplanting it into a pot while it's still easy to dig up. Letting it grow then doing more damage later seems worst.

Quite likely to be a medlar by the look of it - doesn't necessarily mean it's a seedling though, it could be a sucker - you'll soon find out if you decide to dig it up :-)

If it's a sucker it would be quince, since that's the rootstock. But I thought it seemed a bit slim to be a sucker - I normally find they look a bit more mature when they break the soil than seedlings do.
