  • Topping Up Fruit with extra compost

    Can i top Up Fruit with extra compost?
    Please see below, i have under filled these to start with.
    Can i simple just fill to the brim now?
    or would i be best picking out the plant and filling from the bottom

    That the blue berry and i also have 3 citrus id like to do this with to level the top the pots with compost.

    My advice would be to take the plants carefully out of their containers and untwizzle a few roots of they are near the sides then add fresh ericaceous compost at the bottom and sides not on top.

      I agree, top up underneath instead. If you put it on top, the stem could quite easily rot. The stems on fruit trees don't put out roots in the same way a tomato stem would do, if that makes sense.

          With trees the root flare needs to be exposed or they will slowly rot, bark is not able to protect against soil born bacteria.
