A trick I do when pruning my late fruiting raspberries is not to cut all the canes down to ground level.On the stronger(older) plants I might leave a couple of the canes only cut down by 50%.Then I get a few fruits in early summer and then the bulk later in the year.I've been doing it for two or three years and the plants don't seem to suffer.

I'm just a wee bit concerned the soil's too heavy though. I dug in manure a month ago and because it's sticky clay, I should probably have put some sand in too. But, I didn't ... :-/
