Maybe it may help if you specify what variety you've gone for as somebody pointed out that some varieties are more compact forming than others...I'm thinking Rambling Cascade?

I've selected three varieties - bearingin mind that these are for commercial purposes and would not necessarily be my own personal choice. To give a spread of early to late maturing, I have opted for Elsanta, Honeoye and Symphony.

Rat, i've been growing my strawbs in containers not much bigger in circumference that your baskets for the last 2 years and i put in 7 plants (they're hexagonal so i put one plant per corner and one in the middle). If you're doing them in baskets off the ground i would suggest you miss out the middle one as it will be difficult to pick, but i reckon you could get at least 5 or even 6 plants in.

I guess it really depends on how long you plan to keep them in the baskets for as they will get bigger over time. If its just a 1 year crop, cram as many as you can in, 2 year crop try 5-6 plants.

Are you using cold stored runners or pot grown plants as this will also impact on space? If cold stored you can pack them in more but pot grown tend to be 'wider' in terms of root space taken up.

        Hope this helps.

          Cheers Protea
Knew someone would come up with the goods. BTW, my plants will be of the cold-store type.

Just normal plastic garden pots, but the kind you use for big plants for sitting on the patio. I got them from a garden centre.
