  • plum seed

Hi I've managed to extract the seed from the plum core so I thought I'd give it ago and plant it. Can anyone give advice of how to go about it. I heard that you must chill out the seed a couple of months before planting it?
    cheers

You can just pot it and wait for it to sprout. One word of warning though is that it will not come true to type.

It may well grow into a perfect shaped tree, fruit prolifically and give plump juicy fruit. just as likely it may grow into a ground hugger, fruit sporadically and give up dry bitter fruit. You take your chance but it will be great fun to see what you end up with.

I have a Victoria Plum tree in the garden, and every year I miss some fruit which fall to the ground, gradually rot away or get eaten, and every spring I end up with seedlings. You have to spot them really early or they are a bu***r to get out. Have one "wild" plum near the greenhouse but the fruit is horrid - small, green and bitter. If you want a really good fruiting plum, then you need to buy a named variety as a small tree. However, as Piglet says you can pot the seed leave it outdoors and see what happens - you may end up with a prizewinning new variety.
