When I moved house I took some newly pruned raspberry canes that I had been keeping in a temporary bed. I planted them permanently in June and thought that would be that until next year. However, to my surprise they started fruiting in August and continued until last month (and very nice they were too!) They are not meant to be an autumn fruiting variety so I don't understand why they fruited this year. There is also new growth of about 1ft high. My question is should I cut down the canes that fruited this year as normal and leave the new growth or should I prune all the growth and hope new canes grow in the spring?

Leave the new growth alone ,and ,if in doubt leave the fruited canes until the spring and see what happens( although I suspect they should really be cut down).
