  • Blackberry recommendations?

I've cleared some space next to my shed at the lottie and thought I might plant a blackberry to grow up (ish) it. Any recommenedations? Not fussed if its thorny, main considerations are taste, yeald and something that'll grow up my shed with some support.

Sorry this is not a recommendation but a site that has interesting choice of blackberry (with pictures) to get you started with. Personally I like them big ones.

I grow Himalayan Giant. 3-6 metres long, nice flavour, VERY thorny , tolerant of all abuse.

(I use them in a hedge to ward off intruders..)

They can be easily pruned by hand if you are careful. )

My Father-in-law grows these Madasafish. The flavour is excellent.

          Hi,

I just ordered 2 Karaka Black blackberry bushes as they come highly recommended by many. They are quite a new variety from New Zealand. You find out more by doing a Google on them....

I was going to spend a bit more and go for Ashton Cross or Fantasia but there more like wild brambles in that they go a bit wild if left untrained and are very thorny.

The Pearl is a bit fiddly for my liking, but Curve looks good!
