  • raspberry price advice please

    £5.99 for four or five canes seems to be the going price at garden centres in my local area.

    Is this the norm, or do you know of any better value on line?

    I'm after about twenty canes of autumn bliss.

    many thanks

    Burnzie

      Do you need all 20 at once? You could buy 4 or 5 this year and then propogate your own canes next year - that way, they only cost you £5.99 for 20

        Actually, if you look at these online fruit suppliers (reputable companies), you'll find that £6 for five canes is quite a good price!

        If you want cheaper, but un-named varieties, places like Aldi, Lidl, £stretcher, Morrisons etc are worth looking in. My local Morrisons had Raspberries in this afternoon as well as Blackcurrants, Gooseberry & Redcurrants - £1.29!

            That's a fab price! I didn't think Garden Centre could do that sort of price but I doubt I'd get that from my local GCs though. I thought £1 per cane from say Poundland was the cheapest but neither they or Wilko or Woolies ever specify what their variety is so these stores are never really useful for buying Raspberry . I find the online suppliers expensive too (plus the cost of P&P) but they are able to offer more choice on varieties. Sorry Burnzie, not much help here.

              Does Morrison specify the variety against the fruit bush? I'm thinking at £1.29they wouldn't bother or would they?

                No, not unless it was in very small print!
                I bought 5 canes of Glen Ample from my GC for £6.95, and reckoned that to be a good price!

                  That's pretty good Hans Mum. Didn't recognize some of the varieties, but this is what I found on Glen Cova;
                  High yielding firm medium sized flavoursome early fruit. Freezes well. Vigorous and a good cropper.
                  Sounds alright!
