  • Apricot Tree

I would very much like to grow an Apricot tree in a large tub but having trawled round the garden centres, local fruit tree growers, and searched through countless fruit tree suppliers. I can't find one that is grown on a root stock smaller than St Julien. This is supposed to be semi-dwarfing but will reach 12ft. Much too large for a pot.

My question - Does anyone know if it is possible to grow Apricots successfully in a pot and if so what root stock should I be looking for?

    Thanks.

I have looked through some of my fruit catalogues and Deacon's Nursery have St. Julien and also Pixy which grows to 8 - 10 foot after 10 years. www.deacons.nursery@btopenworld.com

Ken Muir also have St. Julien but they have a patio tree growing 4 -5 foot producing 10lb of fruit or more after 3-4 years. The variety is Aprigold. www.kenmuir.co.uk

We have bought all our fruit from Ken Muir and always found that we received good quality fruit bushes.

    Hope this helps.

      Mini Apricot

      Beryl,

The smallest one i have come across is the 'dwarf apricot' from Bakker which grows to just 1 metre tall.

Thanks you both for that info.
I have not been able to get into Deacons web site, but I do have Ken Muirs latest catalogue. How did I miss the Patio trees?
I will also investigate Bakker too.

        Many thanks again.

Apricot and Nectarine trees arrived today from Bakker.
Both pruned and looking very healthy indeed.
I shall enjoy growing them on.

          Thanks again.
