I got me a redcurrant for 99p from Lidl. The seeds are in too.
Also bought a nectarine tree in flower from Instore for a fiver!!! Happy day!
Oooh, jealous now No seeds at our Lidl yet and no Instore here at all. Do nectarines need any special treatment, or do they grow ok here?
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Oh, just assumed since it was being sold here it would grow!!! It says it is self-fertile and to plant in a sunny spot. It has two choices and won't break the bank if it dies anyhoo. I was so excited to see a tree with blossom on - cheered me up no end.

Wow, a fiver for a somewhat exotic nectarine is fantastic, they normally don't go for that sort of price unless it's the usual apple or pear or cherry or plum. Do you know what the variety is and is it dwarf in any way?
I got a dwarf peach tree for about 12 online but it's quite big so I'm pleased with the price I paid. I could have got the dwarf nectarine but I read somewhere that between nectarine and peach, peach is a little hardier.
Hope you have fun with it. Leaning it against a sunny brick wall may do the trick.

It is a Fantasia Nectarine. Height from 12 - 25 ft depending on variety and pruning. I should spry for mildew and aphid and use a general fertiliser with a high potash content in early spring. It is currently around four and a half foot high with lots of lovely branches with flowers on and leaves emerging. All in all a very pretty little tree. I will put it in a large pot for now as we may be moving and I don't want to lose all the fruit trees I have been collecting. I don't have any sunny brick walls but do have a nice sheltered garden. I can move the pot round to keep it sheltered anyway.
Found this on Dobies website. Looks like I got a good buy!
Nectarine Fantasia
A vigorous and easy to grow Nectarine!
The perfect nectarine for the garden! Easy to grow and vigorous, it shows good resistance to frost and will produce a bountiful crop of tasty fruit with fragrant, juicy yellow flesh. Pick late August. Self-fertile, and grown on Montclaire rootstock which is highly productive with medium vigour. It also makes trees less susceptible to frost damage, making the difference between peaches and nectarines being marginal in the U.K. and being really successful.

Anyone else get any today? I've taken a chance on five goosegogs, a redcurrant and a blueberry. I reckon if even one of them does well it's a good enough deal
I popped in on the way home from work (nights this rotation) and bagged a dozen mixed apples and pears. They had plenty in too which was good. I was there as the doors opened so had the opportunity to hand pick ones that were a good shape for cordoning.
After lots of debating my husband said that he would preferre not to have trees in the garden we have a lottie for my veg he will put up with my greenhouse and my shed at the bottom of the garden and the flowers + herbs in the front. to which he has got a fair point he wants some open space for the kids to play footie so i'm not allowed any fruit trees........ How long do you think it will take him to notic the cherry and plum tree in the middle of the football pitch? in my defence it takes him a good week to notice when i've had my hair done and thats with help. so as long as i get them planted before he's finished work i should be safe for a couple of months
I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

How about planting them where they could become the 'goal'?
thats would be far too easy ! i'm not used to sensible and comprimise but yeah i could ring him now a tell him i bought some goal posts for him and the boy! will take a pic of his face when he sees them. hehe.

I managed to get a Jonagold apple tree plus 1 conference and 1 beurre hardy pear. I didn't get in the shop until 11 o'clock so I missed the plums I wanted; will try again next time they have them in
