I got one from our local posh garden centre that was about 5 foot for about £85 (much to Paul's horror although he very kindly treated it with so much TLC taking it home that it didn't drop so much as a leaf!)
The following year I found one the same size for £50 at a different garden centre in the sale. They were both in pots - I don't know if bare-rooted ones would fruit so soon, or if all that 'ooh it takes years for them to fruit' stuff is a bit of an urban legend.
The people at Ken Muir would know - they sell bare rooted mulberries, but not weeping ones as far as I can make out.
5 foot is big but Blackmoor sell one which is 100-125 for £10. However I don't how long that will take to fruit. I think I will ask them.
I did it will have a few next year.
Trees online have got weeping mulberries for £40, which is less than I paid for mine - as usula I got carried away in the garden centre and should have done more research!!! On the plus side I did get two or three bowls of fruit from the very first summer.
On page 83 of the latest GYO you can see my one behind the fleece Paul is holding - it looks pretty even in winter.
Just looking at it now! It *is* very pretty and that's great news that it fruited at such a relatively small size. I think I may just have to get one
I'd love to see more shots of the GYO staff's gardens btw!!!
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."
