3 Strawberry questions

1.How many plants can I plant in a good old grow bag?

I planted lots of odd Strawberry plants last year that I had found scattered around my garden, some were 1st yr runners. None of which produced much fruit.
My 2nd question is do you think it is worth keeping these plants and seeing if they fruit this year or discard and get in new?

3rd and final Q: If I keep these plants will they be ok to lift and plant into growbags on a stand?

Sorry I may not be the best person to answer your questions but I'll try having started last year from 3 Wilko runners and reading up LOTS on strawberry growing since .

I've come across recommendations (from Net research) planting between 3 to 6 plants (2 plants in each hole) in a grow bag. If you get a grow bag, try and get the one with tomato pictures on them as someone pointed out in my earlier thread that they produced by far the best results. I'm growing mine in window boxes but I use some of the tomato growbag compost mixed in with my good quality garden soil, threw in some growmore but don't take my words for it, they're just my personal experiment.

First year runners don't produce much fruits as you're supposed to let them produce runners to be more productive in their 2nd and 3rd year before they get discarded. But in second year, you should cut off the runners for emphasis on fruit production. Believe me, mine was dismal too last year.

I shouldn't think there should be any problem replanting them in a grow bag and putting them on a stand. Once your plants start flowering, make sure you feed them with potash and some people appear to use stuffs like Seaweed liquid feed (don't have one yet).

I think you should try keeping them.
When did you plant the first time ? If you plant after November you don't get much fruit.

2. Yes, keep them - if it was their first year last year, you may still have another two years of fruit to come.

3. If the plants have rooted well in the ground you are going to find it tricky to get them in a growbag, just because of its shallow depth. If you have to pot them up a deeper container might be easier. Can you not leave them in situ? It might be better to move them after they have fruited in the autumn.
