melons from seed

hi there,
my little one has insisted we take the seeds from her melon so she can plant them in her new indoor greenhouse. i have dried them out on kitchen roll on the kitchen wndowsill but just wondered if i have to do anything to them (soak, score????) before she sticks them in compost in her little pots and expects plants. also anyone ever had any success at this?

Hi Joolz

All I do with mine is dry them out just as you have, and stick em in the fridge till I need em.
They were sown into compost about a week ago, no signs of anything yet but not expecting anything quite so soon.
Last year they appeared above ground 11 days after planting but it wasnt at all warm last year, and that was my first try so no idea if thats good or bad.

SBP Good spot on my deliberate mistake. 11 days after going into a pot in my frontroom the little rascals appeared.
Even somewhere as exotic as north west France was bl&$dy cold all summer.

Just put the seeds in compost (on edge if they are big seeds, less chance of rotting) and give them a little heat if you can.

Last year, planted seeds 22nd Feb in heat, they were up in less than a week and the first melon slipped its stem on 19th July. (This was 'Green Nutmeg', a small variety). I grew them on in large pots in the tunnel.

I am planning to grow tigger melon too but will only germinate them mid march or so.
Has anyone grown it before ? I grew it last year but killed it accidentally around june ( I felt right on top of the vine also kill the topepo rosso at the same time).

thank you to all.
gracie has now planted, watered and put in her mini greenhouse which is stuated in our back room at the moment in front of th french windows.
she also planted hedgehog seeds, kiwis, and broad beans.lol
heres hoping something pops up.

Pop some raddish seeds in as well, they will sprout up very quickly and keep her interest.
