  • Which fruit to grow?!

Hi, I have a wall (abt 6 feet high) which is east facing, but is at a right angle to a south facing white wall. Which fruit would be the best to grow against this wall? I was thinking about a fig, but I don't know how well they'd ripen there. There's not really any fruit I don't like (except gooseberrries!) so all suggestions happily considered! I'm in the south and we seem to avoid the worst of the weather here. Our soil is quite alkaline and doesn't get overly dry in summer. Hope this all helps!

Tayberries - taste like raspberries but easier and quicker to get a return.

I planted one last year and got 3 punnets of fruit off it.

Go for a tree that you can train on the wall like a peach.....

SLG suggests Tayberries but I have one and it is thorny, there is a thornless variety now. He also mentions Raspberries, if you try these I suggest the autumn varieties. They are easier to "grow". They fruit on new wood so you let them grow, pick the fruit then chop them to ground level each year.

Another option might be a cultivated blackberry like Waldo or Loch Ness. Thornless and nice fruit.
