  • Can you espalier a plum tree ??

Took advantage of the Aldi specials today and bought a Victoria Plumb tree.
My intentions were to espalier it but with further reading it appears that it is not advisable to do this. Does anyone know why or is it worth taking the risk anyway??????.
    Thanks Minty X

I know plum trees can be trained as fans, so I really don't know why you couldn't make an espalier if you wanted to. However, you do need to know what sort of root stock it is grafted onto, as this will make a terrific difference to the rate of growth. Aldi are really cheap, but as far as I know they don't give you very much information about the variety, root stock etc. Try googling for training fruit trees, and good luck.
