  • Ill looking strawberry bed

    Hi all

Well after getting up at 2pm after a horid night shift i was straight in the car off to the lottie to sow some more seeds parsnips & leek but after a quick walk round the lotttie my strawberry bed looks like its been brought up through all the world wars as pic ( sorry about the size mobile pic) so i was thinking about pricking out all the plants laying a membrane and replanting them in nice spaced rows what do you think good idea or best to leave them as they are ?

    Thanks Lee

Your choice really. However, if you move the plants now you will probably lose a year's crop. Why not settle for feeding and weeding the existing bed (and taking out any surplus plants) and layering new plants later in the season to make a new bed?

My strawberry bank is also looking sorry for itself but it was also this time the last two years and in the end, I couldn't give them away fast enough. Rustylady's advice seems very sound.

I put half a bale of straw around my strawberry plants only to find when I went to the lottie that after the recent high winds the straw was in next doors allotment!

I tend to dig them up in the autmn and replant them in the spring if I have to move them.

They like the winter in the green house.
