  • Rhubarb in a pot

I've just bought an enormous pot from the GC ( I had some vouchers!) it's about 70cm in diameter and about 50cm deep.

I plan to transplant my existing rhubarb crown (just starting to sprout) and a new one I bought yesterday.

Will they be ok in pots? The reason I want to transplant it is because it took over my small raised beds last year completely and gave the slugs a pole-vault into the beds over the copper tape!

I plan to put the pots on the front patio which is South facing will that be ok or do they prefer not to be in full sunlight?

    Thanks all....

LJ I always grow my rhubarb in pots, if not they take over the bed. I dig the pots into the ground but they stay in pots so I can take them out and move them if they start to get too large.
Mine grow in full sunlight without any noticeable problems.

Many thanks Bobleponge, I shall transplant them into their new enormous home this week and I look forward to the leaves taking over the pots.

It always seems so surprising how the tiny shoots I can see now, will completely swamp the available space in the coming months.

I always think there's something a bit rude about the way rhubarb emerges in spring

They'll need a fair bit of watering LJ, but otherwise I can't foresee any problems.

            Nor will I!!

I gave them a quick wink this morning as I left the house, and had a little chuckle as I got into the car.

As they are on the front patio, I will pass them everytime I leave the house so should remember to give them some water and some tender loving care.
