how long do raspberry canes last?

I have had my plot for 18 months now including a large-ish area devoted to raspberries. I got pounds and pounds of fruit last year, wonderful, but wondered if I could expect the same this year? I get the impression they've been there a while, at least 3 or 4 years, probably more.

How many rasberry plants do you have Queen of the Cobs? We transplanted 8 canes on our plot last week & wondering how much fruit we're likely to get?

We have got an area about 10 feet by 20 feet, probably about 40 canes! I need to thin them out though, as they grow quite thick and I couldn't get to the fruit in the mifddle. I found they were really heavy croppers though, so even 8 canes should give you a lot of fruit. I froze lots of it and was eating it till January. I'm buying a separate freezer for all my produce this year, he he.

The canes last for pretty much ever, they're not like strawberries which you have to replace every few years so much less hassle in my oppinion.
