A while ago i posted a thread asking for tips on Kiwi vines, i now have the answer from a couple of pages in Alan's new book...a few of you grapes also wanted to know some stufff about them...so just ask and i can probably tell you now xxx
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
rite then...They grow best in warm, sunny sheltered spot with fertile, well-drained soil after working in plenty of organic matter. You do not need 2 plants as you can get one plant of a self-fertile variety. Each kiwi vine needs 3-4.5m of space. Mulch generously in spring and sprinkle a handful of general purpose fertiliser. Plants need a trellis or horizontal wooden rails/wires to grow on. Prune the Kiwi each winter and harvest the fruit on October onwards. Small fruit that doesn't ripen by autumn is usually due to growing in an insufficiently warm, sheltered, sunny spot. In a cold and exposed situation, grow the Kiwi on the south side of a wall. Anything else?? xxx
