  • Poorly Rhubarb

Firstly not sure if rhubarb is a fruit of a veggie, my brain seems to think veggie for some reason but if this is in the wrong place please accept my apologies.

While at my allotment this morning I found a very poorly rhubarb plant on my plot. Uptil now it has been hidden underneath my neighbours black plastic which they had placed over their plot and a section of my plot about 4 by 4m. I only got my plot a few weeks ago and before then it had been vacant for at least 5 years so I guess it was easier for them to just layout the plastic rather than cut it to size. Anyway when I got there this morning the plastic had been removed from my plot to reveal a very sorry looking rhubarb plant.

It has very few stems which are very curly and almost white, with small yellow leaves. I would like to keep it if at all possible but am not sure what to do with it other than wait and see if it recovers. Any help advice would be wonderful.

I'm far from an expert Allie but I did that to one of my rhubarb crowns on purpose this year! The stalks are much more tender if grown in the dark. It does sound as though yours may have been a bit squashed into the bargain but I bet it will be ok.
I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

Wait and see. It's white and curly because it's had no light and has been squashed. It will soon recover.

Thanks for the advice, I shall just leave it alone and see what happens.
