Hi, is doyenne really that difficult and does it need a pollinator.I`ve tried some supermarket doyenne du comice pears from south africa ,will the garden grown ones be much better.
I have Doyenne du Comice and Concorde (which I planted as a pollinator to the Comice). For my money, Concorde is every bit as good as Doyenne du Comice: it's a superb pear.
It is a good idea to have a pollinating partner. (make sure it will be in flower at the same time) Concorde is good I agree. Sill I like the Comice but they pick late and then they require ripening further if you time it all right then they are fab but it does take a bit of judgement.
