sad raspberry canes

Hello all, I planted some new rasp. canes last autumn ( Autumn bliss) and nothing seems to be happening. No leaves or buds just a dead looking stick peeking out of the ground. The next doors lottie has nice, fresh foliage starting to take off. What, If anything has gone wrong is it worth having a look to see if the roots have given up the ghost or will that do more harm than good? Any advice gratefully taken on board. Thanks!!

This probably doesn't help but I had the same thing and ended up binning them as there were just no signs of life at all after almost a year in the ground.

Bought some replacements, two of them look great with nice big leaves growing and the other two look like dead sticks in the ground again..

next doors could have been there longer i'd hang on a while yet, min have just started to show signs of life and they are in their 1st season too

It sounds as they're dead to me Murray as mine are in leaf and I'm in Lincolnshire.

Give them a little longer, we had some last year and one or two gave up the ghost so we bought a new one to fill the gap. It did nothing, just sat there like twigs but it's leafing up now.

Again aren't there different 'seasons' for these? Maybe it's a late fruiter?

Just thought - if there are several 'twigs' why not give one a trim and see if the inside is green or if it's dry and dead.

I bought 5 autumn fruiting and 5 summer fruiting canes early last year. Only one of each grew last year, but the summer fruiting one has pushed up 4 new shoots for this year, plus flower buds are showing on the last year's cane already. The autumn one is shooting up, but not looking too good. They were from a reputable garden centre, but very disappointed. I didn't keep the receipt, or I might have complained.

I have been trawling this forum for tips and ideas for a few months now as I seek to establish my new veg and fruit patch. It is a source of valuable information for a beginner. It was my intention to ask the very same question that you raised Murray, but you beat me to it. I purchased 3 of each of Glen Ample, Glen Moy and Autumn Bliss raspberries, planting all of these in a prepared row last November. Essentially, I had 9 sticks and nothing else until last week when 3 of the summer fruiting raspberries began to send up new little shoots. My Autumn Bliss ones haven't shown any signs of life yet though, same as yourself. I was beginning to think that all of mine were dead too.

I have a similar thing; I have 4 rows, one each of Glen Moy, Glen Ample, Autumn Bliss and Autumn Gold. Both the Glen Moy and Autumn Bliss are beginning to show signs of life - but not all of them. The other two rows continue to look like dead sticks in the mud, but I'm hoping this is to do with them being later varieties. I'm gonna give it a couple more weeks before I start digging to see if there are any signs of life.

Stick with it a while, that's what I say.

Calm down calm down, down here in tropical Dorset my autumn rasps have just started to move, the tree's are only just getting their leaves, the ground is still cold have a look around your plot how many volunteer spuds have you got, I had dozens at this time last year and this year 1 and I dont think that managed to pick every spud out of the ground
