  • Daft raspberry question!

    Hi everyone,

I absolutely love raspberries and spend a fortune buying them every year so this year I bought some raspberry canes- 10 each of Autumn bliss & Glen Clova. I know it's going to be next year before I get any fruit but I'm just wondering what should be happening to the canes this year. They were planted in February. So far nothing is happening with any of the Glen Clova. As for the Autumn bliss there are some leaves appearing at the base of 4 or 5 canes. Should I expect growth higher up the canes, side-shoots that kind of thing?
    Thanks for any help

I got new canes last year, a mix of Autumn and Summer fruiting, they took a while to do anything, quite a while actually but in they end they came good and started to grow. I even got a little crop off each cane.

I think my Autumn ones did put on some growth on the existing cane but it's the new shoots you want really for this Autumns fruit. The old existing canes may leaf up and give you a small early crop.

Some Autumn Rasps give you a crop twice, once in Autumn and again in Summer but if you allow this is does reduce the Autumn crop, so usually the canes are cut back in the Spring.

    Hope that helps.
