Hi folks
I think you're all coddling your fig trees unnecessarily. Having them indoors (assuming house, not greenhouse, but also greenhouse) and outdoors and indoors will just confuse them.
Figs are very tolerant of bad weather, cold and rain. That's how they survive and become mature trees.
Mine have been out all winter, down to -8 on several nights, and are now sprouting very nicely and one of those is a tiddler. I leave them out (and the kiwis which are also very hardy) and just move the potted figs closer to the house, not indoors at all.TonyF, Dordogne 24220

We have a Brown Turkey fig and as soon as we got it, we dug a hole, lined it with paving slabs and then put it in a bucket and put it in a hole. Figs are rampant and will grow very, very quickly unless restrained. Brown Turkey are hardy to our climate according to the blurb. A large fig tree down the road in the garden had loads of figs on it. Lots of places suggest putting several inches of hardcore in the hole before planting the fig to keep it under control.

Here are my babies - five littluns (White Marseilles, Brunswick, Hardy Chicago and two Wilko ones (probs Brown Turkey) and one bigun, which is definitely Brown Turkey.
(Excuse my neighbours bins and 'wilderness' garden in the background).I was feeling part of the scenery
I walked right out of the machinery
My heart going boom boom boom
"Hey" he said "Grab your things
I've come to take you home."

I have figs but can't really claim responsibilty for them as they were on the tree when it turned up as a stick earlier this year. Seem to be swelling nicely though so I have great hopes.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Which one are you and is it how you want to be?
