I ordered with just the P & P - not received anything yet but I notice the amount has already been taken out of my account. Is it the correct planting time yet for Autumn Raspberries? Some I have on the lottie are still fruiting. Maybe that is the delay.
I will report back if and when I receive them.

      Hi

I ordered the raspberry canes as well, and they haven't arrived yet either. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

        raspberries

when you do get the canes and they start growing a larger fruit is possible if the canes are supported .a smaller fruit is the result of the canes growing loose.

          rasps

I've ordered them as well, together with the precision pruners. I've received the pruners with a note saying that the canes would be dispatched in Nov. This was a couple of weeks ago.
It is now the right time to plant new canes, but I am also a bit concerned that I haven't received them yet. I can only plant them at the weekends and time is going by...

My free raspberry canes arrived today.
Ground is too frozen to plant just yet.

                Help

I planted autumn raspberries last weekend. I have cut the canes back to about 15-20 cm but I am a bit worried that the frost will kill them. I am new to gardening so I have read as much as I can which has confused me more. I now have them covered with fleece. Do I cut the canes right back to ground level or wait a while until I do this?

I usually cut mine back to about 10 inches in length.

                    Rasps

I got my free rasps today! Yippeeeee!!!
As the ground is frozen at the moment, does anyone know if I can keep them with the roots in the plactic bag for a while? If so, how long for?

                    Thanks!

I would take them out of plastic bag....see if they need to go into some water for an hour or so.
You can always put them into pots of compost while waiting to plant in garden if you think ground will be frozen for a while.

Mine havent arrived yet and this is my free weekend for pottering around my pots. Does anyone have any suggestions of how to care for them when they are here. Im planting them in containers so i can get them in the ground but do i need to cut them or protect them in any way? Am dead annoyed, forgot to bring in a firecraker fushia and i think the frost has killed it. The leaves are dead but im hoping the roots might recover inside. Thanks, Catriona.

I've got some on order from a Daily Telegraph offer, which still havent arrived and I too am getting anxious about getting them in the ground. The DT offer sent me 3 blackberry plants about 6 weeks ago, which have settled in well, but I'm wondering if there's a cut off point to plant raspberries?

Amanda1 - Don't worry, autumn raspberries are really tough !
Not necessary for fleece, you might have to firm them in again in spring, feed them and mulch with leafmould(also spring), then ....wahey ! raspberries ! Usually end of August 'till frosts, the more you pick-the more you pick !
I cut back to 2-3 inches each winter thereafter

Thanks dadnlad (great name by the way). Do you know how short the canes should be cut back to on its first planting? They are currently about 15cm but I keep getting conflicting advice from the books.
